Assisting Instructor:  Andre Harris

 

 

Andre Harris is an assistant director for STAR Education’s Engineering Division.  Andre holds a BS in Business Administration from Chapman University and is currently completing his BS in Engineering at California State University of Fullerton.  Andre works year round helping to design and implement hands-on educational curriculum in all of the engineering fields.

Guest Artist:  Patrick Osborne is an accomplished artist, animator, and character designer. He graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2003, and has worked professionally as an animator for Sony Imageworks and Walt Disney Animation. His movie credits include Wreck-it-Ralph, Tangled, Bolt, I Am Legend, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Polar Express. Most recently, Patrick was the Animation Supervisor on Disney's Acadamy Award Winning Animated Short, Paperman.

 

Site Supervisor:

Romayne Putna is the STAR Resource Station’s "Teacher Extraordinaire" and Zome Tool Director. A graduate in Philosophy from the University of Liverpool, Romayne has worked with STAR GATE and STAR Science since 2008, creating curriculum and teaching a variety of subjects, specializing in Math, Science, and the Arts. She is the Co-Creator of "The Inquiry Café", a hands-on "think tank" where students are encouraged to share their questions, ideas and opinions, and become comfortable with the immediate and intuitive experience of learning.

Deanne Bell is an engineer and science television host. She received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to becoming a TV host, she designed opto-mechanics for military aircraft sensors in Los Angeles and worked as a senior application engineer for a software startup in Boston. In 2006, Deanne took her first job in television, as a co-host for the Peabody Award winning children’s series, Design Squad. Her television hosting credits include ESPN’s “Rise Up”, National Geographic’s “The Egyptian Job”, DIY Network’s “Money Hunters”, and perhaps the most adrenaline-packed of them all, Discovery Channel’s “Smash Lab”. Between stints on television, Deanne has been teaching Science and Engineering for the STAR Resource Station since 2009.

PATRICK OSBORNE

Guest Designer: Carla Hartman is the grandaughter of Charles Eames who,with his wife Ray, founded the iconic Eames Furniture company.  Carla is a Board member of the Eames Foundation and is also its Director of Education.  

Ms Hartman has a formidable history in teaching, she was the Master Teacher in Architecture and Design, and Graphics at Denver Art Museum; and she has been an Educator-in Residence at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.  

Today Carla collaborates with museums, galleries, schools and other institutions to extend the legacy of Charles and Ray Eames with interactive programs and exhibitions. She teaches Chair Camps across the country, as well as preserving Eames House, a National Historic Landmark located in the Pacific Palisades.

 

 

RAYMOND LO

Assisting Instructor: 

Raymond Lo's passion for engineering began with his father, a mechanic who shared his skills with his son.  Today Raymond is the Director of the Engineering department at STAR Education, and has been with the company for over six years.  Prior to that he gained a BA in Anthropology from UCLA and taught at the UCLA Unicamp for seven years.  He implemented the annual LEGO robotics comepetition, Battle of the Brains, which is hosted at STEAMtopia, a STEAM convention for children.

Raymond finds inspiration in the current Maker Movement, a trend that allows the every day person access to technological and entrepreneurial innovation.

   

JAKE LONIAK

Guest Designer

Jake Loniak is an industrial designer from the world of transportation.  He graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, and now teaches college students himself.  He has spent more than fifteen years in the industry and is prolific in the design of futuristic vehicles.  He is perhaps best known for the Deus Ex Machina, a wearable motor cycle, first made the front cover of Popular Science magazine in 2008.  Jake has also been featured in Car Styling, G4TV and the Discovery Channel.
