Multi-Media Production Summer Steam Academy 2013
DAY 8
Today we started to feel the pressure. The final screening is on Friday so we really only have one full day left to get everything fully completed.
The two companies took a brave decision to leave a select few from each of their groups to finish editing their feature films, whilst the rest of the crews worked onother projects. Members of each production house created a Bloopers/ Out-takes reel in the morning, and by the afternoon most people had moved on to making a music video using stop motion animation.
Animation in general is painstaking work, and stop motion animation is particularly time-consuming. So it was especially pleasing today to see the effort that was being put into the project. Some truly meticulous handiwork was evident, and we're all excited to see the finished product.
In order to shoot the animation each student made a back drop and used various mediums for their focal characters, clay was popular, but paper cut outs and pen and ink drawings were also in use.
James made lifelike, oversized crayons from clay and paper.
After lunch we had a real treat! Guest speaker Trevor Etiene came to join us for the afternoon. In the earlier part of the afternoon the students showed him their feature films and went through the editing process with him.
In return he demonstrated techniques actors use to combine filming real action on set, with CGI special effects so that they blend perfectly.
...and some acting exercises!
